Kit features removable back panel to show interior, and front panel that can be opened in order to extend the computer arm. Support legs can be moved, the middle leg is retractable and the dome (head) can be rotated. Clear parts are blue tinted and some parts on the dome are plated.
If you compare the finished model with R2-D2 seen in the movies, you will notice some errors: kit`s body is considerably thinner, and middle leg´s foot is too big and has a wrong shape.
Finished model is about 15 cm (6 inches) tall.
Everybody`s favorite droid rolls back into action as R2-D2 reappears in Return of the Jedi. That cantankerous cylindrical hero of the Star Wars saga joins in on the rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, and the attack on the Imperial stronghold on the planet Endor.
MPC kit comes in 4 box variants:
• wide "New Hope" styled box 19x35.5 cm (7.5" x 14") from 1978,
• wide "New Hope" styled box for Canadian market,
• narrow "New Hope" styled box 15.2x35.5 cm (6" x 14") from 1979,
• "Return of the Jedi" box from 1983.
This kit was also released by Meccano (France), Denys Fisher (UK), Clipper (Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg) and Kenner (Germany). Revell/Takara (Japan) produced two variants of this kit in 1978 - one with and one without lights and motor.
